DETAIL ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive in Phoenix/Mesa 

  • Pizza Party & Dinner - Orientation

Overnight - Sheraton Mesa Hotel, Mesa, AZ (D)

Day 2 - Exploring the Sonoran Desert - Mesa – Superstition Wilderness

  • Hike - Blevins Trail - 3.0 miles (Elevation 114 ft., Loop Trail)

  • This route explores the eastern section of the Usery Mountain Regional Park and is a great, that is mostly flat. 

  • Divergent Adventure Course - Family Problem Solving/Communication using Geocaching 

  • AZ Museum of Natural History & Dinosaur Mountain -or- free time.

Overnight - Sheraton Mesa Hotel, Mesa, AZ (B,L,D)

Day 3 -  Southern Sonoran Desert - Tucson

  • Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum -  Tucson

  • Hike - Saguaro National Park - Tucson Mt. - Adventure Lab

  • Divergent Adventure  Course - Student Problem Solving/Communication - Geocaching 

Overnight - Sheraton Mesa Hotel, Mesa, AZ (B,L,D)

Day 4 -- Valley Of The Sun Arizona Experience 

  • Walk - Activities - Riverview Park, Mesa

  • I.d.e.a museum - Lunch

  • Goldfield Ghost Town/Apache Trails Jeep Tour

  • Divergent Adventure Course - Incorporating Sensory Experiences 

Overnight - Sheraton Mesa Hotel, Mesa, AZ (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Depart For Home or Extension to Sedona

  • Family Walk - Riverview Park

  • Celebration Family Breakfast - Awards

  • Free Time - Lunch and Travel Snacks

  • Noon Departure to Airport. (B,L)

 

OR- Day 1 EXT - Depart For Red Rock of Sedona (Optional Extension)

  • Walk - Historical Site - Montezuma Castle National Monument. – Camp Verde.

  • Sightseeing Into Red Rock Country (Picture Stops).

  • Uptown Sedona – Sedona Heritage Museum

  • Uptown Sedona – Shopping & Free Time.

Day 2 - EXT - Red Rock of Sedona

Day 4 -- Valley Of The Sun Arizona Experience 

  • Hike Lost Dutchman State Park - Hike & Lunch.

  • Adventure Host, Guide, and Educator. Divergent Adventures hosts and guides are masters-level or higher professional educators,  behavior analysts, and certified autism travel professionals. They stay with the group throughout the itinerary. Depending upon size, they frequently drive the group.

  • Adventure Learning Course throughout the itinerary.

  • 4-Day/5-Night Adventure

  • 4-Nights Hotel Accommodations per the itinerary. Prices based on Double Occupancy (2 people/room).

  • Meals per the itinerary: Breakfast-5; Lunch-4, Dinner-4.

  • Group Transportation throughout the itinerary. (Arrival Airport to Hotel NOT included).

  • Access and entrance fees to museums, historical & cultural sites, and parks as listed in the day-to-day itinerary.

Family Travel Adventure Education Training Series Description: 

Our transformative 4-week training series is designed specifically for families with neurodiverse travelers. Discover the world of adventure travel as we equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to embark on unforgettable journeys.

 

From effective planning and organization to understanding and managing sensory sensitivities, our comprehensive program will empower you to create inclusive and enriching travel experiences. Connect with a supportive community, learn practical strategies for overcoming barriers, and build resilience as you explore new destinations together.

 

Family Adventure Education Training Sessions Dates and Times:

  • Meet virtually 1x per week.

  • 4 weeks for 1.5 hours per session.

  • All classes take place on Zoom. (Specific days/times TBD). 

 

Family Adventure Education Training Objectives:

  • Equip families with neurodiverse travelers with the necessary skills and knowledge to plan and organize inclusive adventure travel experiences.

  • Provide families with strategies to understand and manage sensory sensitivities, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience for neurodiverse individuals.

  • Foster resilience, connection, and community support among families as they explore new destinations together and create lasting memories.

  • Demonstrate how to incorporate physical training activities to improve stamina and promote self-regulation techniques for neurodiverse travelers, ensuring their physical well-being and enhancing their overall travel experience.
