It’s like being your own tour guide—with a detailed plan and safety net. We provide the detailed itinerary, maps, prep tools, sensory-friendly tips, and all the local know-how. You and your family explore at your pace, in your way. No buses, no rigid schedules, and no group pressure. You’re in control, but not alone.

1a. Do you provide real-time support & service?

Accepted Answer

We provide access to emergency services such as medical emergency, links to alternative transportation and real-time route support via Google Maps linked in your itinerary. We also offer and strongly recommend Travel Insurance through our partner company, the Walking Connection. [See LINK].

2. Is this type of trip really suitable for autistic children and teens?

Accepted Answer

Yes—because we’ve designed every aspect with neurodivergent kids in mind. Think predictable routines, sensory-aware environments, flexible pacing, and zero social pressure. You won’t find surprise fireworks or chaotic group dinners here. You will find open trails, quiet scenic spots, and prep tools that help everyone know what’s coming next.

3. How do we prepare for all the walking and activity?

Glad you asked. We created Journey30, a 30-day pre-trip training program for families to build physical stamina and get comfortable being active together. It’s light, fun, and totally doable—even if your family is more "indoorsy" than outdoorsy. No marathons. Just consistent movement and confidence-building.

4. What if my child has a meltdown or needs a sensory break mid-hike?

Accepted Answer

Been there. Planned for that! Our itineraries include low-sensory rest zones, alternate routes, and structured break times. We also give you "Opt-outs” for most stops—because flexibility is part of the plan, not a failure of it.

5. Are there any group activities or is it all solo?

Accepted Answer

No group activities unless you choose them. This is a self-led journey, so there’s no tour group to keep up with, and no awkward social dynamics. That said, we sometimes offer optional meetups or shared experiences for families who want that community—totally opt-in.

6. What gear or equipment do we need to bring?

Accepted Answer

We give you a packing checklist tailored to your trip, including sensory-friendly recommendations (noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, cooling towels). You don’t need fancy gear. If you can walk in it, snack from it, and carry it comfortably, it’ll work. Bonus: we include links to products we’ve tested.

7. How do you choose the destinations and routes?

Accepted Answer

We scout locations ourselves, prioritizing wide open spaces, minimal sensory overload, easy navigation, and meaningful nature experiences. We limit or altogether skip the tourist traps and long lines in favor of peaceful trails, scenic drives, and local gems.

We partner with local businesses', organizations, tourism boards, non-profit, social and educational agencies, and directly with municipalities, parks and tourist sites to assess the experiences on offer  to ensure they can meet the needs of the neurodivergent family's unique requirements.

Safety, accessibility, and dignity are non-negotiables.

8. What if something goes wrong while we’re out there?

Accepted Answer

First—breathe. You’re not alone. We provide emergency contacts and local support info. We also prep you with “Plan B” scenarios in your Personal Summits Adventure Guidebook, so you’re calm, capable, and covered when the unexpected happens.

9. Can we customize the trip for our child’s specific needs or interests?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Every family is different, and that’s our sweet spot. Whether your kid is obsessed with geology, birds, or just needs extra downtime between hikes—we’ve tailored the recommended routes, timing, and stops so you can choose what and what not to do based upon your needs at the moment.

Note that at each destination, Google Maps also offers alternative activities that are near you in real-time. If you are facing any challenges that cannot be solved at your current location, open up Google Maps and see what is offered. You can also proceed to the next recommended destination in your itinerary.

10. How is this different from just planning a trip ourselves?

You could plan it all yourself… after 40+ hours of research, second-guessing, and cross-referencing sensory needs with site and trail reviews. Or, you could let us do what we do best: design neurodivergent-friendly, family-tested adventures that feel empowering, not exhausting. We save you time, guesswork, and meltdowns.
