Self-led, Self-drive Divergent Adventures Itinerary

Discover Arizona - Mesa, Superstition Wilderness & Southern Arizona

Day Two -- Superstition Wilderness - Lost Dutchman State Park (Activity Level 2/3)

Plan for A Whole Day Adventure: Explore one of Arizona’s best-kept secrets, the Superstition Mountains. Home of the Lost Dutchman legend, this area, located in the “East Valley,” offers excellent opportunities to learn about and explore the Sonoran Desert and its rich cultural impact.

Head To Toe: Wear a hat with a brim or visor, sunglasses, sunscreen, a t-shirt (short or long-sleeve), hiking shorts, a belt, and socks. Today’s adventure is on unpaved desert trails and requires sturdy walking/hiking boots or trail runners with deep tread for traction.

Pro Tip: Keep a pair of sports sandals in the car when you are not hiking.

In your pocket or day pack: Phone, filled water bottle/hydration bladder, snack, personal medication, money, credit/debit card, sun, and prescription glasses.

Start your day with an early breakfast and departure from the hotel. Your destination in the morning is Lost Dutchman State Park, which is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. The park has little shade, so plan to get there early when temperatures and the sun's angle are more moderate.
